APOEL's journey to the Champions League stopped in the 3rd qualifying round and now its European suitcase is transferred to the Europa League. The Cypriot champions in the playoffs are invited to overcome the obstacle of the Latvian champions, FK RFS to find themselves in the League Phase of the competition.

In order to find themselves on the road to APOEL, Riga was eliminated in the 2nd qualifying round of the Champions League by Bodo Glimt with two defeats (4-0 at home and 1-3 at home), then in the 3rd qualifying round of the Europa League they prevailed in both games against in Santa Coloma with a total score of 9-0 (0-2 away, 7-0 home).

The team profile

FK RFS is based in the country's capital Riga and its colors are blue and white. It is a relatively new team as it was founded in 2016, but its history began much earlier. More specifically until 2003 the current club was a boys team under the auspices of the youth club of the Latvian powerhouse FK Skonto, however in 2003 he left the club and two years later created the semi-professional football team FSK Daugava 90 which in the process was renamed Rīgas Futbola Skola (Riga Football School) and was duly registered in the country's championship.

In 2015 Rīgas Futbola Skola finished 3rd in the second division table and failed to gain promotion, however the Latvian Football Association revoked Skonto FC's membership license and granted it to the club which changed its name to RFS and took her place in the 1st category. It should be noted that since then the team is managed by the Latvian company LNK Group.

Riga has been using LNK Sporta Parks as its home ground since the summer of 2022, which can accommodate a total of 2,300 fans. The home of RFS is the largest privately owned sports center in Latvia and the 7th largest football stadium by capacity.
