The independent three-member committee overseeing private sector employment by former government officials and high-ranking public and private sector officials has refused to grant a private work permit to the former director of the Department of Lands and Surveys. The reason is the obvious conflict of interest that arises as Mr. Socrates applied for permission to be employed as a consultant in a law firm which undertakes cases against the activities of the Land Registry and decisions of the director of the Land Registry.
