Former Larnaca Municipal Secretary sentenced to 5 months in prison

The Larnaca District Court today imposed a five-month prison sentence, starting today, on former Larnaca Municipal Secretary Lefteris Empedoklis, 59, after he was found guilty of interfering in court proceedings, ie that he tried to influence a municipal official, who was to testify trial, in which he was accused of theft by a public official, extortion of money with false representations and money laundering of illegal activities.

According to the facts of the case as reported in Court, the 59-year-old, while in June 2018 he was accused in a case for which he was sentenced to five years in prison, tried to influence a municipal official.

Specifically, while the testimony of an official of the Municipality of Larnaca was approaching, before the Permanent Criminal Court of Larnaca – Famagusta, the former Municipal Secretary visited him and suggested that he read a specific questionnaire that he had prepared with his lawyer.

However, the official of the Municipality of Larnaca went to the Police and made a complaint, which led to the arrest of the former Municipal Secretary.

The case was heard before the Larnaca District Court, which last week found him guilty of meddling in a court case and set January 21 as the date for sentencing the 59-year-old.

Today, the Court sentenced the former Municipal Secretary of Larnaca to five months in prison, starting today, which does not coincide with the sentence that has already been imposed on him.

It is recalled that the former Municipal Secretary of Larnaca was sentenced on April 23, 2019 to five years in prison, after he was found guilty, after a hearing, on charges of theft by a public official, embezzlement of money with false representations and money laundering.
