Marietta Giannakou had been hospitalized after from a fall he had from a wheelchair and then had to undergo surgery as doctors determined he had a hematoma. The MP then underwent surgery and then it was deemed necessary to transfer her to the ICU.
Marietta Giannakou's life changed radically on February 6, 2008, when she underwent amputation of her right leg after a fracture. Her diabetes prevented the wound from healing and caused an infection, with the result that her state of health deteriorated rapidly. This forced the doctors of the “Herrikos Dunan” hospital to hold an emergency meeting and decided to proceed with an amputation operation in order to save her life.
