Specifically, the Limassol District Court sentenced the company “AH-ALKABUSINESSTRADINGLTD”, which operates in the construction sector, to a total fine of € 4,400, for failing to take the necessary measures for the safe execution of work at height, such as the use of scaffolding or mobile / and seat belts with seat belts of sufficient strength with a mechanism against falls and / or energy absorption device, with the result that its employee falls from a height of about 10 meters and is seriously injured in various parts of his body.

The company also failed to determine the precautionary and protective measures that had to be taken based on the written assessment of the existing risks at work and especially for the work at height related to the repair of balconies.

It was also condemned for failing to ensure that the safety and health plan is drawn up to set out the site safety rules and special measures for work involving specific risks to the safety and health of persons at work, before the start and fail to provide supervision during balcony repair work.

In addition, the Limassol District Court sentenced the company “PRASTITIS MARBLES LTD”, which operates in the field of processing marble, granite and ceramics, to a total fine of € 12,000, for failure to take the necessary measures, such as using special pedestals (platforms, stands) marble slabs, which have brackets to hold the slabs, resulting in the process of transferring ceramic tile from storage to processing, to move a bundle of ceramic tiles and crush its employee resulting in serious injury and death.

Among other things, “PRASTITIS MARBLES LTD” was convicted for failing to determine the preventive and protective measures to be taken based on the written assessment of the existing risks at work and especially the work related to the transport (loading / unloading) of ceramics. heavy loads).

In addition, the Court fined one director a total of € 4,000 for breaches of occupational safety and health legislation, while another director was sentenced to five months in prison with a three-year suspension for breaches of safety and security law. health at work.
