The state is acquiring privately owned buildings to house ministries and other government services, with the aim of reducing the huge costs incurred in renting. The state pays about € 24 million a year in rent, which is shared by 380 individuals and legal entities who lease about 600 buildings to the state throughout Cyprus.
According to information from “P”, the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works Mr. Giannis Karousos is launching through the Department of Public Works the announcement of two architectural tenders for the location of government buildings in the area of the Presidential Palace and the General Secretariat, in the center of Nicosia. Specifically, high-rise buildings – towers will be erected to house the Legal Service and the Ministries of Interior, Justice and Transport.
