53% of French people want the collapse of Prime Minister Michel Barnier's government as they are angry with the draft budget he submitted, according to an Ifop-Fiducial poll for Sud Radio published yesterday.
The poll showed that 67% of respondents are opposed to the Barnier government's budget, which aims to reduce France's growing public debt with spending cuts and tax increases totaling 60 billion euros. 33% support the draft budget.
What the polls show
The French government could collapse before Christmas and possibly even next year week, if the far-right and left-wing parties table a motion of censure, which Barnier is certain to lose, according to multiple sources.
An Elabe poll for BFM TV released on Wednesday showed that 63% of respondents believe that, if the Barnier government collapses, French President Emmanuel Macron should also resign.
