The windmill impeller of the most famous cabaret in the world, Moulin Rouge, collapsed yesterday morning., with Parisians and the French authorities expressing their concern over the strange incident that could endanger the lives of residents.

In its statement, The Paris Fire Service was quick to point out that the cause of the collapse is not yet known and that no one was injured.
It also stressed that there is no longer any risk of further damage.

“Fortunately, the incident happened after the Moulin Rouge had closed,” a nightclub worker told Agence France-Presse. “Every week, the technical teams of the cabaret check the mechanism of the windmill and they did not find any problems… It's the first time such an accident has occurred since the famous cabaret opened its doors to the public on October 6, 1889,” added the employee, speaking on condition of anonymity.
The last major damage to the building was a fire during renovations in 1915 forcing the cabaret management to lock up for nine years.
