The Deputy Chief of Police rolls up his sleeves for possible disciplinary offenses against officers of the Force in relation to the diversions at the "Eleftheria" stadium.
According to the SIGMA report, three Police officers are in the frame for wrong handling, which led to the incidents.
The Deputy Chief of Police, Dimitris Dimitriou, who will conduct an investigation into possible disciplinary offenses against of three Police officers, who are allegedly responsible in relation to the incidents of March 26 in a basketball match between Apollon and Anorthosis at the "Eleftheria" stadium.
Additionally, the Minister of Justice requested an opinion from the Attorney General on how to proceed with the disciplinary investigations as the Deputy Chief is the one who suggested the disciplinary action.
While the Legal Service gave the green light to the Minister of Justice, who sent a letter to the Deputy Chief of Police, Dimitris Dimitriou, with instructions to carry out a disciplinary investigation into three Force officers involved, who allegedly failed to carry out a proper risk assessment as there were reports of organized fans descending on the stadium in buses. Therefore, Ayantas was not recruited, the necessary checks were not carried out at the stadium, but the presence of members of the Police was not increased either.
The Deputy Chief is expected to forward the conclusions of the investigation to the Minister of Justice as in then Anna Koukkidis-Prokopiou will decide whether to proceed with the appointment of a three-member committee to examine the resulting disciplinary matters.
The Deputy Chief's investigation is expected to be completed within a month.
