What does it say in its announcement

The Commission for Gender Equality in Employment and in Vocational Education (EIF), as responsible for matters of sexual harassment in the workplace, welcomes the billsof the Ministry of Justice and Public Order, establishing sexual harassment and/or harassment as distinct disciplinary offences in the Police and Fire Service, something that has already been done in the Civil Service and is being promoted and for the Educational Service.

In its announcement, the Commission states that it has been dealing with complaints about cases of sexual harassment in the workplace over time, as well as complaints concerning incidents of gender inequality in general. It also provides support and advice to victims. An important responsibility of the Commission is to provide legal aid to victims of discrimination to claim compensation before the Labor Court. It is worth noting that the Commission is in constant cooperation and communication with the Equality Authority of the Office of the Commissioner for Administration and Human Rights and the Equality Inspectors of the Ministry of Labour.

Among other things, it is stated, the Commission organizes educational seminars, forums and trainings addressed to employers and employees on matters that fall within its competences. for all public and private sector employers to have on sexual harassment. The Commission has a mandate to assist employers in drafting and implementing such a code, because if there is harassment in the workplace and it is proven that there was no such code and the employees did not know how to report the harassment in question, then the employer may be held jointly liable for the compensation to be awarded by the Court. It is worth noting that the Commission has drawn up a Guide for preventing and combating harassment and sexual harassment in the workplace, which contains instructions and advice for employers and employees. The Guide in question is available on the EIF.
