General Accounting Office: Discussion on simplification of co-financed programs

With the aim of planning the next steps to simplify the Programs co-financed by the EU Cohesion Policy funds, drawing on the lessons learned from the previous and current programming periods, the 15th meeting of the Transnational Network for Simplification, of the Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy (DG REGIO) of the European Commission.

The meeting attended by 100 experts from 25 Member States, including Cyprus, as well as European Commission officials, was co-organized by the General Accounting Office of the Republic and the General Directorate for Development, Ministry of Finance, in collaboration with the European Commission and co-financed by the EU, within the framework of the Political Cohesion Program “THALEA 2021-2027”.

According to a statement by the General Accounting Office of the Republic, in his greeting, the General Accountant Andreas Antoniadis emphasized that simplification, professionalism and reforms are the key ingredients for economic development and are of great importance in the world of public finances and governance.

He also mentioned the importance of simplifying the procedures so that European funds can be absorbed more quickly and efficiently, as well as reducing the administrative burden borne by both project implementers and Program managers.

In his own welcome, according to the announcement, the Deputy Director General for Development, Ministry of Finance, Andreas Zachariadis, emphasized that the transnational simplification network presents a great opportunity for communication, cooperation and exchange of experience and knowledge between the Member States and the European Commission .

According to the announcement of the General Accounting Office, the results of the two-day discussions will be subject to further processing and evaluation by the European Commission with the aim of utilizing and adopting them.

The next meeting scheduled in Riga, Latvia on March 14-15, 2024.
