General Government surplus of €931.6 million (3.1% of GDP) for January-September 2023 compared to a surplus of €727.1 million (2.6% of GDP) for January-September 2022, show the preliminary fiscal results prepared by the Statistical Service.

According to the Service's press release, the analysis concerns the main categories of income and expenses and separates income and expenses (expenses), into current and capital, respectively.

It is added that the collection of financial data is from the Integrated Administrative and Financial Information System of the General Accounting Office (FIMAS) for the Central Government, the Off-Budget Funds and for the Social Security Organizations, from the implementation of the budget of the Municipalities and Communities and from the implementation of the budget of the Semi-State Organizations.

As explained, total revenues, during the period January-September 2023 increased by 899.1 million euros (+11.0%) and amounted to 9,050.2 million euros compared to 8,151.1 million euros in the corresponding period of 2022.

Specifically, it is reported that total taxes on production and imports increased by 286.1 million euros (+9.6%) and amounted to 3,262.1 million euros compared to 2,976.0 million euros in 2022, of which the net VAT revenue (after deducting refunds) increased by €174.7 million (+8.8%) to €2,160.3 million compared to €1,985.6 million in 2022.

It added that income and wealth tax revenues increased by €290.5 million (+14.5%) to €2,295.8 million compared to €2,005.3 million in 2022.

< p>It is noted that social contributions increased by 344.8 million euros (+15.4%) and reached 2,580.5 million euros compared to 2,235.7 million euros in 2022.

It is reported that the current transfers increased by EUR 53.7 million (+35.5%) to EUR 204.8 million compared to EUR 151.1 million in 2022. Revenue from services increased by EUR 14.2 million (+2.7 %) and amounted to 548.4 million euros compared to 534.2 million euros in 2022.

Conversely, interest and dividends received decreased by 22.2 million euros (-22.7%) and were limited to 75.6 million euros compared to 97.8 million euros in 2022.

It is noted that the capital transfers decreased by 68.0 million euros (-45.0%) and was limited to 83.0 million euros compared to 151.0 million euros in 2022.

In terms of total expenditure, in period January-September 2023 increased by 694.6 million euros (+9.4%) and reached 8,118.6 million euros compared to 7,424.0 million euros in the corresponding period of 2022.

Specifically, it is reported that social benefits increased by 258.9 million euros (+8.6%) and reached 3,267.8 million euros compared to 3,008.9 million euros in 2022.

It is noted that the staff remuneration (including imputed social contributions and civil servant pensions) increased by €263.2 million (+12.0%) and amounted to €2,462.1 million compared to €2,198.9 million in 2022.

It added that subsidies increased by €63.3 million to €124.1 million compared to €60.8 million in 2022. Current transfers increased by €85.8 million (+21.2%) to € €490.3 million compared to €404.5 million in 2022.

At the same time, it is reported that the capital account increased by 65.1 million euros (+11.0%) and reached 656.7 million euros compared to 591.6 million euros in 2022. In detail, fixed capital investments increased by 111, 8 million euros (+25.2%) and amounted to 556.0 million euros compared to 444.3 million euros in 2022 and other capital transfers decreased by 46.7 million euros (-31.7%) and were limited to 100.7 million euros compared to 147.4 million euros in 2022.

In contrast, it added, intermediate consumption decreased by 26.1 million euros (-3.1%) and was limited to 810, 6 million euros compared to 836.7 million euros in 2022.

It is noted that interest paid decreased by 15.6 million euros (-4.8%) and was limited to 307.0 million euros compared with 322.6 million euros in 2022.
