Held on 2/3/2022, meeting at the offices of the Federation of Employers & amp; Of Industrialists (OEB) between a delegation of AKEL headed by the General Secretary of K.E. Mr. Stefanos Stefanou and a member of the leadership of OEB headed by its President Ms. Antonis Antoniou.
Mr. Stefanou was accompanied by the Members of Parliament Mr. Christos Christofidis and Giannakis Gabriel as well as Messrs. Haris Polykarpou, head and Vakis Charalambous, member of the Economic Studies Department of AKEL. On behalf of OEB, Messrs. George Petrou, Dimitris Vakis, Louis Loizou, Thomas Kazakos, Lysandros Ioannou, the General Manager Mr. Michalis Antoniou and executives.
The meeting focused on the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the problems it has caused in the world and European space, as well as in the Cypriot economy. In particular, reference was made to the situation as it varies daily with developments continuing to cause uncertainty and negative effects on energy, tourism, supply chain, trade and finance and how these effects could be addressed.
The meeting also discussed issues related to developments and prospects of the Cypriot economy, mainly the reform of justice and local government, the GESY and tax reform.
Both the General Secretary of AKEL and the President of OEB Agreed to pursue a constructive dialogue on economic issues with a view to successfully addressing the challenges posed by the need for a strong welfare state based on a strong and competitive economy.
