A persistent but mild seismic sequence is in progress from Saturday, June 25 until today in the sea and land area of Limassol, the Department of Geological Survey of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment announced on Wednesday./p>

The announcement notes that this is a seismic sequence with dozens of small earthquakes, with a maximum magnitude of M = 2.9 on the Richter scale, which develops in an area extending from the sea area , a few kilometers south of Germasogeia, to the land, a few kilometers north of the area of Agios Athanasios. Of the number of earthquakes, seven were slightly felt by Limassol residents.

Earthquake is a natural phenomenon that is not predicted and the outcome of the current seismic sequence is impossible to predict , refers to the announcement.

It is added that the Geological Survey Department monitors the evolution of the sequence, evaluates the seismological data and updates the website and Twitter account of the Seismological Center (www.gsd- seismology.org.cy, @CY_earthquakes).

Due to the large volume of seismological data to be processed, the media will be informed through written announcements of the Department.
