“The reaction of your own Committee is deplorable… you are petting the Israelis”, said the AKEL MEP
MEP Giorgos Georgiou asked the European Commission to ban surveillance software, during his intervention in the debate on Tuesday night on the issue of surveillance, noting that toleration of a crime is considered complicity.
Comparatively , the discussion was about the recent revelations about spying on Members of the European Parliament and lack of follow-up on the recommendations of the PEGA committee, of which Mr. Georgiou, a member of the Left group in the EP, is Vice-President.
In his intervention, Mr. Georgiou said that the European Commission is now complicit, noting that MEPs are being monitored again “with illegal software”.
The PEGA Committee worked very hard for 15 months around the issue of monitoring, he added.
“We gave the European Commission everything: facts, the guilty companies, names and addresses, the guilty states, we also made recommendations. What don't you understand?” asked Mr. Georgiou, asking the Commission if it was not tired of hiding “behind cheap rhetoric”.
He noted that, “even the Americans” imposed sanctions on NSO and INTELLEXA .
“The reaction of your own Commission is deplorable”, he said, adding that, “you are pampering the Israelis”, “covering up the illegalities of European governments, undermining democracy, violating our human rights”.

“Now, now, I am sure. You do it consciously,” continued Mr. Georgiou, noting that toleration of a crime is considered complicity.
“Ban them, finally, let's end it,” he said finally.
