The floating drilling rig Transocean Barrents set sail from Limassol, heading for the Kronos field, where drilling will be carried out on behalf of the Italian ENI at the Kronos-2 target in block 6 of the Cypriot EEZ, approximately 160 km southwest of Cyprus, as informed by the Cyprus Cyprus.
According to informed sources, the drilling is expected to last until the end of the year or the beginning of 2024.
The floating drilling rig had completed drilling on behalf of TotalEnergies in the Lebanese EEZ around the end of October.
It should be recalled that in August 2022, the Italian ENI had announced the discovery of an estimated amount of 2.5 trillion cubic feet of natural gas at the Kronos-1 target, noting that there is a prospect for additional amounts to be explored with additional exploratory drilling in the area.
As reported by KYPE, drilling at the Kronos-2 target will be the company's third in block six, following drilling at the Kronos-1 target and drilling at the Calypso field in 2018.
ENI is the operator of the block with 50% share, with TotalEnergies participating with a corresponding share
