Germany: Angela Merkel calls on Germans to be vaccinated - Vaccine coverage at 62%

German Chancellor Angela Merkel today called on Germans to take advantage of COVID-19 Vaccination Campaign Week, during which citizens can be vaccinated in mosques, shops and football stadiums.

Concerned that the vaccination rate in the country, which is around 62%, is not enough to prevent the coming winter pandemic, especially because of the Delta virus variant, the government is trying to encourage hesitants.

“It has never been easier to get vaccinated. “It has never been faster ,” Merkel told her weekly podcast, adding that from tomorrow citizens will be able to get vaccinated without appointments on public transport, in places of worship and in sports facilities.

About four million people in Germany have been infected with COVID-19 and more than 90,000 have died from complications of the disease.

According to Merkel, while it is positive that about 66% of citizens have already received a dose of the vaccine and 62% have been fully vaccinated, the number of cases is increasing and most patients are unvaccinated.

“In order to spend the autumn and winter, we need to convince more people to get vaccinated. I ask you to protect yourself and to protect other people. “Get vaccinated,” said the chancellor.
