The former Commissioner for Volunteering, Giannis Giannakis, responded to the eight charges, which were announced by the accusing Authority and concern for forgery offenses, during the hearing, which started on Thursday, in the District Court. Nicosia.

Specifically, the former Commissioner was charged with offenses related to forgery of an official document and more specifically his diploma, the circulation of his high school diploma, as well as the offense of forgery of an official document, which concerns the stamps on his degree. p>

The District Court re-assigned the case on October 5, 2022, while Giannis Giannakis was released on parole, until the trial of the case. In particular, the former Commissioner, by a decision of the Court, was released by signing a pledge of a personal guarantee of 50,000 euros.

Initially, the prosecution requested that Mr. Giannakis pay a guarantee of 20 thousand euros with a valid guarantor and hand over his travel documents, in order to ensure his presence in Court, however, his defense attorney, Michalis Pikis, objected, expressing the position that no guarantee and travel documents need to be submitted by the customer.

Mr. Pikis asked the Court to treat this case like the others, saying that in other cases a guarantee is submitted and not with a valid guarantor, while noting that this is a case of forgery, like the others.

“Despite the reports that it refers to my client, he did not leave, on the contrary, he is here to face the accusations and the case. The guarantee is excessive and the request of the accusing Authority should not be satisfied “, said Mr. Pikis.

In relation to his travel documents, Mr. Pikis stated that” while it was announced that he was accused by the “Police are here today and are appearing in court and will be appearing,” he said, adding that “there is no need and should not be publicity to increase or vary the financial guarantee.”

“He is here to deal with the case and that he is here shows that there is no risk of prosecution,” he added.

According to the indictment, the first category concerns forgery of an official document, with the details of the offense stating that on an unknown date, before or around 10 February 1995, in the Republic of Cyprus, for the purpose of fraud, he prepared a forged official document, which appears that it is something that is not in fact, that is, he drew up a university degree document, “B.S. in Civil Engineering “, of the University of San Diego State University, USA, with a date of publication in June 1992, presenting himself as its owner, while he knew that it did not correspond to reality.

The second accusation he faces is that of document forgery and according to the indictment, on or about February 10, 1995, he knowingly and fraudulently circulated a forged official document, ie he submitted to the Youth Organization the forged university degree document.

The 3rd category concerns forgery of a document, with the details stating that this is a letter of recommendation that he appeared to have received from a company. Giannakis Giannakis is accused that before or around November 26, 1996, in order to defraud, he prepared a forged document and specifically a letter of recommendation for him, allegedly signed by a specific person on behalf of a specific company, while such a letter of recommendation was never written and signed. by the person and company in question.

The 4th category is for the circulation of this forged document. As stated in the indictment, on or about November 26, 1996, he knowingly and fraudulently circulated a forged document, that is, he submitted to the Cyprus Youth Organization, the forged letter of recommendation referred to in the previous category.

The 5th category concerns forgery of a forged document and more specifically of his degree, since according to the indictment, on an unknown date between June 1982 and 28 November 1996, in order to defraud, he altered an official document without authority, in such a way that if the alteration has been authorized, this would change the consequences of the document, ie it altered the high school diploma of Agios Georgios in Larnaca, with the result that grades in various courses, as well as the general grade, seem higher than they really are.

In the 6th category, Mr. Giannakis faces the crime of the circulation of his high school diploma. As mentioned in the indictment, he knowingly and fraudulently circulated a fake official document, ie he submitted to the Cyprus Youth Organization, the fake high school diploma referred to in the fifth category.

In addition, in the 7th category, he faces the offense of forgery of the official document, which concerns the stamps on which he bore his degree. The offenses, according to the details of the offense, were committed between 10 February 1995 and 28 November 1996, with the aim of sabotaging, after he drew up a forged document, which appears to be something that is not in fact, that is, he drew up a university degree document. B.S. in Civil Engineering “, of San Diego State University, USA, dated June 1992, which was certified with the seals of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Cyprus and the US Embassy, ​​presenting itself as its holder, while he knew that both the document and the certification with the stamps do not correspond to reality.

The 8th category concerns the circulation of the above forged document, since the accused is knowingly and fraudulently circulated fake official document, that is, submitted to the Youth Organization, the fake university degree, as mentioned in the above category.
