According to the Statistical Service, the reduction is mainly due to the transfer of Hourly Staff from the Ministry of Health to the State Health Services Organization.

Government employment decreased by 3.3% in March 2023 compared to March 2022, according to data published on Tuesday by the Statistical Service. Specifically, employment decreased by 1,778 people and reached 52,103.

According to the Statistical Service, the decrease is mainly due to the transfer of Hourly Staff from the Ministry of Health to the State Health Services Organization, which is included in the General Public Sector, from January 2023.

In permanent staff there is a decrease of 715 people, or 2.7%, from 26,078 to 25,363 people. In temporary staff there is an increase of 601 persons or 3.1%, reaching 20,125 compared to 19,524 persons in March 2022.

A decrease of 20.1% is observed in Hourly Staff and in all categories of permanent staff staff, while an increase is observed in all categories of temporary staff. The biggest changes were observed in the staff of the Public Service, both in permanent staff which decreased by 2.9% and in temporary staff which increased by 5.2%.

In relation to February 2023, the Government employment increased by 0.3%. The biggest increase is observed in the temporary staff of the Education Service, which increased by 2.6%.
