During the warm-up of the football players, the intentions of some fans at the Cirios Stadium where the Lemme derby betweenAEL and Apollon.
Blue and yellow fans created an atmosphere that foreshadowed that things were going in the wrong direction. In the stand there was effervescence, lighting of flares while during the departure of the Apollon football players after the warm-up for the locker room some fans threw stones. Even damage was caused to the stands.
Thus the referee came to an agreement with the Police and after a considerable delay it was decided to definitely stop the derby.
As informed by the Cyprus Times, the decision was taken as the Police were not willing to risk injury to anyoneas it is alleged that a large number of fans had collected a quantity of stones, seats and other dangerous objects. Under these conditions, policing would not be an easy task and the Police could not guarantee the safety of those present.
