The news was announced by his family in a post on Facebook, a few hours after his death.
“It is with great sadness that we announce to you that our beloved father and husband Haris breathed his last in the early hours of the morning after a long battle with cancer.
We will inform soon about when and where the funeral will take place, so that we can all say goodbye to our Grace. We ask for understanding and respect at this time of mourning. We would like to express our thanks to the doctors and nursing staff at Metropolitan for their efforts throughout this journey. Christos, Raphael, Vivi” writes on the singer's official page.
Shortly before his death, his son, Christos, made statements to the newspaper On Time and said about the state of his father's health: “He is being treated in a private hospital. He has been hospitalized for about a month and a half and this is a very difficult time. The whole family is by his side with our love and support. My mother, Vivi, has never left his side. The situations are difficult. I love him so much, he supports me so much. We are the same characters. My dad had an adventure with his health when he was 24 years old and he has a special bond with Saint Raphael, that's why my brother, who is 26 years old, is called Raphael”.
From the moment the news of his death leaked, people from the music industry and his friends rushed to say goodbye to Haris Kostopoulos. Eleni Hatzidou wrote on Instagram: “A good-hearted person, giving and perfect partner. I fell from the clouds, I had no idea he was fighting the beast. You gave me one of the most beautiful and important songs for my career. S’ thanks. Good heaven”.

The battle with leukemia
Haris Kostopoulos spoke 2 years ago about the battle he had fought three decades ago, with his health.
“The biggest lie I've heard is that I died. At one point I was seriously ill. I went through a very serious health adventure. I had leukemia 30 years ago. I was coming off the track, I was passing out… Well, an aunt of mine from Mytilini, who sent me some books from Agios Raphael. I read them, because I wasn't much of a church person. Some things happened that I cannot explain as a human being. I saw something that I thought was Saint Raphael. He helped me a lot psychologically, along with the doctors of course. I didn't go home and I got better,” he had declared in “Breakfast”.
At the same time, he declared that “I did it later, when my second son came. I brought him Raphael, to thank him for what he did for me”.
