Harmonized inflation in Cyprus recorded a significant slowdown in April, according to an announcement by the Cyprus Statistical Service.
Specifically, the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HPI) in April 2023 increased by 3.9% compared to April 2022, while compared to the previous month it increased by 0.9%. For the period January – April 2023, there was an increase of 5.9% compared to the corresponding period last year.
It is noted that in March 2023 the EDTK had increased on an annual basis by 6.1%, while in April 2022 the EDKT had increased by 8.6%.
Compared to April 2022, the categories Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages (6.9%), Furniture, Household Equipment and Cleaning Products (6 .7%) and Restaurants and Hotels (6.5%) showed the biggest changes.
In relation to March 2023, the largest change was recorded in the Clothing and Footwear category (4.2%).
For the period January – April 2023 compared to the corresponding period last year, the largest changes were observed in categories Housing, Water Supply, Electricity and LPG (14.0%), Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages (8.5%) and Restaurants and Hotels (8.2%).
The biggest changes in economic categories compared to April 2022 were observed in the categories Food-Alcoholic Beverages-Tobacco (5.8%) and Non-energy industrial products (5.7%). Compared to the previous month, the Energy category (-2.9%) saw the biggest change.
