The EAC Management is obliged to take an official position on the key issues raised by the employees and “bother the organization” and to inform about its intentions, the trade union organization ASTEPAIK requests in a letter to the General Director of the EAC, while requesting clarifications regarding with the measures from the other guilds.

In its letter, the organization talks about “unacceptable behavior and intransigent position” of the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Finance, while about the Board of Directors it says that its attitude “is trying in an artful way to support the decisions of the Ministries” and the Administration ” leaves the organization exposed with its passive attitude, without officially taking a position on the issues that concern not only the employees of the organization, but also all  citizens”.

“Employees are left alone to fight to save what can be saved,” says ASTEPAIK, noting that they are keeping EAC services running, in several cases at the expense of their own health and safety, while at the same time trying to protect EAC from “the attack it is receiving and at the same time to warn of the government's intentions to privatize yet another non-profit utility”.

The union notes that it expects the Administration to take immediate actions that will solve the organization's understaffing problem, while an immediate decision must be made to return to work the employees who, from time to time, due to the needs of the service, have moved to other departments and perform duties outside their service plan, or be renamed according to the duties they perform. They also request that the administration immediately take actions to fill the vacancies of first appointment and promotion positions.

“We support the efforts made by the rest of the guilds in the organization, at the same time we express our concerns about the measures announced,” they say, noting that the problem of understaffing does not occur only in the construction, operation and maintenance departments, but across the entire scope of the organization , therefore no one should be exempted in the implementation of the measures.

As regards the operation of the six steam-electric units, the guild agrees to take them out of operation, provided that the needs allow, without creating any problem in the supply of electricity to consumers. “Additionally, our position as ASTEPAIK is to launch a campaign to properly inform the state about the real reasons for the high cost of electricity and by extension  on consumer bills”, they say.

In relation to the measures announced by the other unions, ASTEPAIK wonders why they were decided in this period of time, as well as what requests must be satisfied in order to end the measures. “As ASTEPAIK, we publicly ask for further information from the trade unions that decided on these measures. The measures directly concern the Technical and Labor staff, branches to which all our members belong,” he says.
