“We are present and active in the efforts for the sustainable development of tourism and in the creation of a sustainable model”
Hermes Airports celebrates World Tourism Day, which this year is dedicated to Tourism and Green Investments, emphasizing that the development of tourism in our country must be done through a comprehensive plan that will encourage the Green Transition and environmentally friendly investments , will support human resources and their development and applaud innovative practices.
At Hermes for more than a decade, we have approached sustainable development in all aspects of our operation, incorporating best practices. Our most recent investment is the solar parks at Larnaca and Paphos Airports, which are tangible proof of our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint as their operation will prevent the emission of over 5,100 tonnes of CO₂ per year and cover around one third of the airports' electricity needs.
At the same time, today is an important reminder of the journey of all tourism operators towards a sustainable future, where green investments and sustainability will be at the center. In previous years, the tourism industry has proven that it can adapt to the needs of the times and we must continue to do so in the future. We all have a responsibility to shape the conditions for Cyprus to continue to maintain its comparative advantage as a welcoming destination, offering experiential experiences and investing in the creation of year-round demand.
At Hermes Airports, we recognize the catalytic importance of tourism in strengthening our country's economy, a fact that is also reflected in the intense activity we develop for the further development and strengthening of air connectivity in Cyprus. At the same time, we focus both on the creation of infrastructure and on the training of our staff and partners in sustainability issues.
Maria Kouroupi, Senior Director of Aviation Development and Communication of Hermes Airports stated that “Celebrating today, we declare present and active in the efforts for the sustainable development of tourism and in the creation of a sustainable model that will provide prosperity to both businesses and society at large”.
