Hetero: Positive results from phase III studies of Molnupiravir

The results, presented as an oral summary report at the Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections (CROI), 12-16 February 2022, showed that Molnupiravir, in combination with the standard of care, reduced the risk of hospitalization by more than 65%. %, compared with the standard of care alone.

Also, within five days of Molnupiravir administration, early remission of the virus (negative RT-PCR test) and significant clinical improvement in patients . No deaths were reported during the study.

In the phase III trials, one of the studies included 1218 patients with COVID-19 (with SpO2 & gt; 93% oxygenation and COVID-19 symptoms according to COVID 19 guidelines of the Indian Medical Research Council ICMR). The study included patients who, within 5 days of the onset of symptoms, were given Molnupiravir capsules (800 mg twice daily) in combination with standard care or standard care alone for 5 days.

The standard care drug was administered as defined by the ICMR guidelines for COVID-19 patients, which were published at the time of the study.

In April 2021, Hetero entered into a non-exclusive, voluntary agreement with MSD, the manufacturer of Molnupiravir, which also has offices in Cyprus, for the manufacture and distribution of the drug. Under this licensing agreement, Hetero was authorized to extend access to Molnupiravir to India and other low- and middle-income countries, following authorizations for emergency licensing by local regulators.

About Molnupiravir

Molnupiravir is an investigative, bioavailable formulation of a potent ribonucleotide analog that inhibits the reproduction of multiple RNA viruses, including SARS-CoV2, the causative agent of COVID-19. Molnupiravir has been shown to act, inter alia, for prophylaxis, treatment and prevention of transmission, as well as SARS-CoV-1 and MERS. The drug was invented by DrugInnovations at Emory (DRIVE), LLC, a non-profit biotechnology company wholly owned by Emory University. Following permission from Ridgeback, all funds used to develop the drug were provided by Wayne and Wendy Holman and MSD.
