High concentrations of dust in the atmosphere are recorded on Monday, November 1, 2021, according to the measurements of the ground stations of the Air Quality Monitoring Network of the Labor Inspection Department.
A statement from the Labor Inspectorate stated that “because the dust contains small amounts of inhalable particles which may have a negative effect on human health, the public and especially vulnerable groups (children, the elderly and the sick) are encouraged to avoid outdoor activities until to pass the phenomenon “.
Also, “employers must take appropriate measures (organizational or technical), after assessing the risks to their employees who are outdoors, and employees in such areas are advised to use appropriate personal protective equipment.”
Specifically, the last hourly dust collection values measured at 8:00 a.m. in the following areas were, Nicosia: 82 μg / m3, Limassol: 72 μg / m3, Larnaca: 62 μg / m3, Paphos: 65 μg / m3, Paralimni: 51 μg / m3, Zygi: 47 μg / m3 and Agia Marina Xyliatou : 72 μg / m3.
Note that “dust” means inhalable particles in the atmosphere with a diameter of less than 10 μm (PM10). According to the relevant legislation, the limit value refers to the average daily value and should not exceed the value of 50 μg / m3 micrograms per cubic meter.
