The problem of high rents for Turkish Cypriots in the occupied territories is referred to by “Cypriot Postasi”.
According to the publication, the Turkish earthquake victims who arrive in the occupied areas they also face, “the problem of uncontrolled rent increases”.
The newspaper writes that “a student complained that the rent of a 2+1 house from 4 thousand TL suddenly increased to 8 thousand TL”. The student, when he asked for explanations from the owner of his house about the increase, received the answer that “the situation in Cyprus is clear. According to some figures, there was an increase in inflation of 100%, according to some others, 170%. Therefore, we decided to increase the rent from 4 thousand TL to 8 thousand TL”.
The publication notes that in the occupied territories rent increases “are not done in moderation” and adds that the Turkish earthquake victims who arrive in the occupied areas they face the housing problem due to high rents.
