Yesterday's government announcements of partial relief from rising inflation gnawing at income came as no surprise.
The new support decided focused on relieving the most vulnerable groups of the population, who will be granted a lump sum based on income criteria and their household composition. On the other hand, the successive meetings at the Ministry of Finance, which raised some expectations, as well as the government's move to ask for suggestions and proposals from the social partners, did not lead to anything new.

It is indicative that as a first measure after yesterday's meeting of the Council of Ministers was announced by the Minister of Finance Konstantinos Petridis the increase in pensions in July, by about 4.3%, which was largely expected, since it is provided by the current legislation, which provides for an adjustment of the supplementary benefits of the statutory pensions every July 1, depending on the increase of the consumer price index, ie inflation.
If, however, any of yesterday's announcements and statements by Mr. Petridis were confirmed, it was the concern that existed in order for the new measures not to further fuel inflation and accuracy (s.s. through increased demand-consumption), due to the uncertainty that continues due to the war in Ukraine, but also the predictions that inflationary pressures will continue. If this was the goal, then we can say that it has been achieved, as it is not ruled out that in a short time the government will be forced to take new measures and obviously did not want to exhaust its budgetary margins now.
As a result, the reception of the measures by some first public reactions of parties and other organized groups was lukewarm. In view of this, the debate that will take place next Monday in the Finance Committee of the Parliament is expected with interest, where, among other things, proposals will be discussed, such as that of AKEL, for further reductions in fuel prices, by abolishing VAT on excise duty. in petroleum products but also proposals for zeroing VAT on food, such as that of DIPA, but also for further reductions in other services. >The government announced yesterday 11 measures to deal with inflationary pressures and to alleviate households and businesses, which Mr. Petridis cost at 103 million euros. These include the expected extension of the reduction of VAT on electricity for households to 9% from 19%, until the end of August, but also the extension of the reduction of the excise tax on fuels, also until August 31. We note that until the same date, the reduction of VAT to 5% in electricity for vulnerable groups will continue.
As a first measure, as mentioned, the support of retirees was announced, with the Minister of Finance noting that from July the pensions of 165 thousand beneficiaries (s.s. of TKA) will increase by an average of 4.3%, at cost around € 34 million.
But what stands out from the measures announced is the one-off support to be given to the most vulnerable households, based on income criteria and household. It is ensured, as we are informed, that the one-time support will be received by all those who are currently recipients of Minimum Guaranteed Income and recipients of Public Aid.
Who is entitled to one-time support and how much they will receive
According to an official announcement, the one-time amount will be granted as follows:
Category 1: (6,639 beneficiary households): All family units, which are recipients of child benefit and have an annual gross income of the previous year, up to € 10,000, will be paid a lump sum of € 150 for each child up to 18 years of age.
Category 2: (Beneficiaries 13,008 & nbsp; households): In all family units, which are recipients of child benefit and have an annual gross income of the previous year, from € 10,001 to € 19,500, a lump sum of € 120 will be paid for each child up to 18 years old.
Category 3: (Beneficiaries 1,804 households out of 14,604 that fall into this category of income criteria): In all family units, which are recipients of child benefit and have an annual gross income of the previous year, from € 19,501 to € 29,000, with 3 or more children, a lump sum of € 100 will be paid for the third or additional children up to the age of 18
Category 4: (Beneficiaries 1,587 households out of 13,323 that fall into this category of income criteria): In all family units, which are recipients of child benefit and have an annual gross income of the previous year from, € 29,001 to € 39,000, with 3 or more children, a lump sum of € 80 will be paid for the third or additional children up to the age of 18
Category 5: (Beneficiaries 1,037 households out of 8,866 that fall into this category of income Criteria): In all family units, which are recipients of child benefit and have an annual gross income of the previous year, from € 39,001 to € 49,000, with 3 or more children, a lump sum of € 60 will be paid for the third or even the additional children up to the age of 18.
Category 6: (Beneficiaries 23,087 including spouses and dependent children older than 18 years and & nbsp; up to 28 years): & nbsp; In all family units, which do not fall into the above categories, which are beneficiaries of the Minimum Guaranteed Income or of Public Aid and do not have dependent children under the age of 18, a lump sum of € 100 will be paid for the beneficiary, € 50 for the beneficiary's spouse, and € 25 for each child of the beneficiary belonging to the family unit. 18,454 beneficiaries, 2,401 beneficiaries and 2,232 spouses of applicants are expected to benefit from this measure
Category 7: (Beneficiaries 4,750 people with disabilities who receive benefits from the Department of Integration of Persons with Disabilities): To all persons with disabilities who do not fall into the above categories, who are beneficiaries of benefits from the Department of Social Integration of Persons with Disabilities, (blind, quadriplegic, paraplegic, severe mobility disability, recipients of trafficking allowance) will be paid a lump sum of € 100 A total of 73,720 people will benefit from a one-time sponsorship.
The 11 measures announced yesterday also include the childcare subsidy scheme for children up to 4 years old, which concerns subsidies for & nbsp; tuition, feeding and care in nurseries. The plan, which was presented some time ago to the social partners by the Minister of Labor Zeta Aimilianidou, before the adventure of her health, but also by the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare Anastasia Anthousi, will be implemented from next September. According to the Minister of Finance, the measure concerns 16 thousand potential beneficiaries, with the monthly amount of allowance amounting to 80% of tuition and meals, with a subsidy of 100 euros per month up to 350 per month for each child, based on criteria of the family and income criteria. & nbsp; & nbsp;
At the same time, YPOIK announced that for vulnerable consumers the subsidy for roof photovoltaics increases from 750 to 1000 euros per installed kilowatt. For other & nbsp; consumers it increases from 250 euros to 375 euros per installed kilowatt.
