Start of the works to improve the Kyperountas – Dymos road in 2024 announced today by the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Yannis Karousos, during the meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Transport, which discussed the situation of the road network Limassol – Agros and the nearby communities, which number a total of 17 villages. He also noted that the cost of the project is estimated at €6 million.

The issue was brought up for discussion following a proposal by the AKEL parliamentary group, in order to re-establish the facts regarding the problems, but also with the state's plans for the mountain road network in the specific area. Presiding over the meeting, AKEL Member of Parliament, Kostas Kostas, said that it is one of the most important roads in the Limassol district, but it has many turns, is narrow and often has problems with landslides, therefore it is very dangerous.

< p>The presidents of nine communities in the region underlined that the discussion about improvement projects in the network date back to 2005, but without substantial interventions in it. They repeatedly emphasized that no matter how many measures are taken to revitalize the countryside and mountainous areas, if there is no adequate and safe road network, the villages will soon become deserted. It was also noted that the improvement of the network will also serve the easier and faster access of visitors by bus, as well as the access to the Troodos hospital in Kyperounda.

In response to the complaints of the presidents of the communities about the constant postponements in the promotion of projects on the specific road network, Mr. Karousos said that “this year the government has announced as many projects as have not been announced in the last ten years”. There had to be some hierarchy, he added, because the capabilities of the Department of Public Works are specific. He explained that priority was given to major highways and then to important road networks and especially in terms of mountainous areas and countryside, he said that there is a question of strategy regarding the horizon of project execution.
