A new yellow warning has been issued by the Meteorological Service for today, Sunday. :00 until 05:00 on Monday morning.

The weather forecast 

The barometric low named “BARBARA” which affects the Greek area and is expected to affect our region from midnight onwards.

Tonight, the weather will be mostly cloudy and isolated showers are expected in places, mainly in the western half of the island. From midnight, however, rains and local storms are expected, initially in the west and in the north but very soon in the rest of the island. The phenomena are expected to be prolonged or locally intense, while in a storm it is possible to fall hail. Snowfall is expected in the higher mountains and locally in the lower mountains. Winds will initially be southwest to west, light to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort and locally moderate, 4 Beaufort to become from midnight and then mainly southwest, on the windward, strong to very strong, 5 to 6 Beaufort and locally mainly in the south and west until heavy, 6 to 7 Beaufort. The sea will gradually become rough on the western coasts and even rough on the rest of the coasts. The temperature will drop to around 5 degrees inland, around 9 in the south and east coasts, around 10 in the west and north coasts and around minus 1 in the higher mountains. Frost is expected to form in the mountains.

Tomorrow, the weather will remain mostly cloudy and initially rain and local storms are expected as well as snow in the higher mountains and locally and in the lower mountains. From noon, however, the phenomena temporarily weaken. In a storm, hail may fall, while frost will prevail locally in the higher mountains. Winds will be mainly southwest to west, moderate to strong, 4 to 5 Beaufort and locally strong, 5 Beaufort. From noon onwards the winds on the west, south and north coasts are expected to intensify to very strong, 6 Beaufort, from the same direction. The sea will be rough and locally up to wavy, on the south and east coasts, while on the west and north coasts it will become rough until the afternoon. The temperature will rise to around 13 degrees in the interior, on the western and northern coasts, around 14 on the rest of the coasts and around 3 degrees in the higher mountains. Locally, in the higher mountains, frost will prevail.

Tomorrow night, the weather will remain mostly cloudy, with localized showers and isolated thunderstorms as well as snow in the higher mountains and locally in the lower mountains. Winds will be mainly southwest to west, moderate to strong, 4 to 5 Beaufort but on the windward strong to very strong, 5 to 6 Beaufort and locally very strong, 6 Beaufort. The sea will be up to rough on the south and east coasts and rough on the west and north coasts.

On Monday, the weather will remain mostly cloudy with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms as well as snow locally in mountainous. On Tuesday and Wednesday, the weather will be partly cloudy and at times mainly cloudy, and isolated rain and snow are expected in the mountains.

The temperature will see a drop on Monday, no significant change on Tuesday and little further drop. on Wednesday, to fluctuate significantly below the average climatic values.

The height of snow in Troodos Square, at the time of issuing the bulletin, was 26 cm.

Heavy rainfall in areas in Nicosia  

In the areas of Astromeriti, Peristerona and Akaki, heavy rainfall prevails while heavy traffic is also observed.

Drivers are asked to they are particularly careful, to drive at low speed and to keep a distance from the vehicles in front.
