Jean-Yves Le Gall, a prominent space leader in the global space community, visited Cyprus on Monday and had meetings with the Cyprus Space Exploration Organization (CSEO). The aim is to create new major partnerships between Cyprus and the international space sector. In a ceremony held at CSEO, President Le Gall was invited to the CSEO Council.

An announcement from the Agency states that President Jean-Yves Le Gall is an Honorary Ambassador of the International Astronautical Federation (IAF), an organization that spans the entire planet and includes all space agencies and companies (such as NASA, ESA, Roscosmos, SpaceX, Arianespace , Boeing, Airbus, Lockheed Martin, Houston Space Center, Blue Origin, Virgin Galactic, etc.). The IAF represents an ecosystem with an annual revenue of over €400 billion.

President Le Gall served as President of the IAF during the period 2016-2019, President of the French Space Agency (CNES), CEO of Arianespace, President of the Board of ESA and many other recognized bodies. Visited  Cyprus in its role as an IAF Ambassador to expand the international partnerships of the Federation's members, of which Cyprus is a member through the CSEO.

CSEO President George Danos, who holds the position of COSPAR (the international organization for space research) Vice President Innovation and is Cyprus' representative to the IAF, invited President Le Gall to Cyprus to help improve the space research opportunities available. for Cyprus and CSEO members.

Mr. Danos said that it is a strategic goal of the Organization to involve Cyprus  further into space exploration projects and  to play a central role in space diplomacy and space research. So far, he added, the  CSEO hosts three international space science organizations in Cyprus, which highlights the important role it plays in the global space community.

He said that with the help of President Le Gall, "we can further strengthen the role of of our country in the wider region and, worldwide, in the field of astronautics».

During the meetings in Cyprus, President Le Gall was given a tour of CSEO's space research facilities in Nicosia. He visited the laboratory where the Mars instrument is being prepared (the instrument being tested in Cyprus and intended for Mars to date the sediments of the Red Planet).

He also visited the exhibit from "Apollo to Artemis" , organized by CSEO with the support of the US Embassy. 'As reported, current and future space  CSEO designs and  a number of international space initiatives that can involve CSEO, its group of companies and Cyprus and a roadmap was agreed.

As part of the tour, he was also presented with the Nicosia Digital Twin project of the CYENS Center of Excellence, the Makerspace and the Nicosia Smart Cities project, which are jointly hosted with the CSEO at the Nicosia Hub for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, located in the heart of the old city.

At the end of his visit, according to during a ceremony at CSEO, President Le Gall received a commemorative plaque.
