The President of DEFA made a comprehensive briefing to the President regarding its activities, as well as the progress that has been achieved in relation to the development of infrastructure for the import of liquefied natural gas to the Royal. The project is implemented by the subsidiary of DEFA, the Natural Gas Infrastructure Company (ETYFA).

President Anastasiadis was informed, among other things, about the estimated 9-month delay in the implementation of the project brought about by the pandemic, due to the restrictions imposed on the movement of people and the operation of construction sites as well as the lack / reduced availability of specific raw materials. Therefore, the project is expected to be completed in July 2023, as previously announced.

The project, co-financed by the EU through the Connecting Europe Facility, is in the process of completing the design part, while the construction work on the ship “ETYFA PROMETHEUS” is at an advanced stage, which will constitute the floating unit for storage and regasification of natural gas.

The President of the Republic expressed his concern about the observed delay, requesting from both DEFA and the Ministry of Energy, close monitoring of the developments in relation to the progress of the infrastructure implementation works, as well as the supply of natural gas. In addition, he called for the procedures to be expedited.
