After decades of melancholic withering, a series of new development projects in the area show a clear desire for revival and a particularly dynamic comeback of Platres, and perhaps now that autumn is starting to fall and in temperature – not only in the calendar – it will be a very good time for to visit the once classy mountain resort of Limassol and explore the new mobility in the area on our own.

Although the reality is that most projects, some of them particularly grand, will take a few years to complete. to be completed, some renovations of old hotels and restaurants have already taken place and some places have already reopened, suggesting that a one-day or even two-day and three-day excursion to Platres has already become a must.

In the village of kings and poets recently opened a special restaurant that also functions as a wine bar, the name and deed “Kings & Poets'. The resto bar is located inside the Semiramis Lodge hotel and offers careful Mediterranean cuisine as well as a wide variety of course in good wines.

The name of the village is Platres, although it is also usually called Pano Platres, due to the existence of a neighboring village called Kato Platres.

There are three versions about how the village got its name. According to the first version, the village was named so from the word platra which means “she who weaves and sells”, because of a weaver who lived in the village and wove and sold her products.

A second version wants Platres, as a fief during the Frankish period, to be called platre, which in French means “white, plaster”. During that period, on the south side of Troodos, above today's Platres, there was a Frankish monastery whose monks were dressed in white and were called Platrai. It is assumed that the village got its name from this. Finally, a third version wants the village to take its name from the word “platsa”, which later became Platra and then Platres.

In Pano Platres there are also wonderful nature trails that cross the village, such as the Caledonia trail that leads to the homonymous waterfall, the Millomeri trail that also leads to the homonymous waterfall and the Milia Bridge trail.
