PASYXE: Temporarily, there is no other solution than importing foreign labor from third countries
Announcements on the human resources in the hotels are expected within the year, as the Director General of the Pancypriot Association of Hoteliers (PASYXE), Filokypros Rousounidis, said to “SPORT FM 95.0” and the show “DISPORA IDISSEON”.

According to Mr. Rousounidis, on Thursday (07/09), PASYXE had a “very constructive and productive meeting” with the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulidis. “The President came very studied, with notes, and ready to provide solutions to the problems plaguing the tourism industry so that there is a more rational approach always aiming at the highest quality service offer and of course to make Cyprus a year-round tourist destination”, he clarified. As he said, “to a certain extent some actions were agreed upon in which we will proceed”.
Regarding the issue of the lack of workforce in hotels, Mr. Rousounidis noted that there are proposals that focus on the ways in which “we can attract more Cypriots to the profession but also fill the void left by the Europeans and community members who left for the their countries during the pandemic and did not return and who are over five thousand. For the time being, there is no other solution than to import foreign labor from third countries.” He clarified that announcements will be made on the matter within the year.
Regarding the racist incidents that took place in Chloraka and Limassol and when asked whether they have a negative impact on the country's tourism, Mr. Rousounidis said that the events that unfolded do not honor our country, however it is a social issue and not a tourist issue. “We don't need to give it more dimension as a negative impact comes if and when it gets bigger. I hope that we will not see such phenomena again”, he asserted.
