& nbsp & nbsp Άγγελος Νικολάου & nbsp; & nbsp;

Electricity savings of & nbsp; thousands of euros per year will have those farmers who proceed with the installation of photovoltaic systems. They will be able to do this even if they do not have enough space in their farm, since by modifying the Plan for Production of Electricity from Renewable Energy Sources for own consumption, they are given the opportunity to place them in a space other than that in which they are active in. & nbsp;

This is because the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, after consultations and discussions, with all involved and in close cooperation with the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry through working groups set up, has succeeded in amending the Electricity Generation Plan by Renewable Energy Sources for own consumption with virtual netting. & nbsp;

This is a modification that will save an economic burden, that of electricity, both household consumers and farmers, in case they choose the solution of photovoltaics. & Nbsp;

The amendment that has been approved aims to extend the use of RES systems for the purposes of own electricity consumption, by introducing in the Plan the new “Category D – Virtual Net Measurement (Net-metering) and Net Billing. & nbsp; Within this category, photovoltaic systems will be installed, interconnected to the grid, the production of which will be offset by the consumption of electricity of premises located in a different space from the photovoltaic systems. & nbsp;

Beneficiaries of the Virtual Offset Measurement category are in addition to & nbsp; household consumers and farmers, while the maximum power of each photovoltaic system that can be installed within the category is for household consumers 10.4 KW per electricity bill and for 20 farmers KW per electricity bill. In addition, efforts are being made, as in some categories of professional farmers who draw from great depths, to increase the capacity of photovoltaic systems that could be installed. & nbsp;

In addition, the electricity generated by a photovoltaic system will be offset by the electricity imported from the grid (consumption/bill) of a single residential unit or farm located in a different area from the photovoltaic system. & Nbsp;

This provision will make a significant contribution to tackling the serious problems that our farmers face with regard to the cost of irrigation, because the cost of energy is for many sectors of our agriculture and livestock a large part of their variable costs. For this reason, the announcement of the investment measures of the Rural Development program included the farming of alternative energy production systems with the provision of financial incentives which subsidize 75% of the installation costs of the photovoltaic and pumping unit as well as the replacement of energy efficient pumps with more economical under certain conditions. & nbsp;

Applications for fertile land & nbsp;

The decision to modify the Plan for the Supply of Electricity from Renewable Energy Sources for own Consumption was taken with the first concern to reduce our dependence on traditional non-renewable energy sources. Thus, the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment started in cooperation with the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry to find out how this will be achieved. Reducing our dependence on non-renewable energy sources is also required through the Energy and Climate Strategy, as well as the Farm-to-Plate Strategy, and is included in the recommendations for the 2023-2027 Strategic Rural Development Plan. & Nbsp ;

Based on the decision, applications for photovoltaics for farmers are examined on a case-by-case basis in fertile/efficient land, as defined in the provisions of the Development Plans and/or concerns the following areas: a) Permanently Irrigated Land, b) Dry Land reclamation c) Irrigated Land reclamation d) Areas irrigated by government work The policy for support of agro-photovoltaic installations and photovoltaic installations on greenhouse roofs will be implemented.
