The trade balance deficit increased to €3,112 million for the period January-April 2023 compared to €2,178.4 million in the corresponding period of 2022, according to data published by the Statistical Service on Friday.

Specifically, total imports of goods for the period January–April 2023 were €4,363 million compared to €3,305 million for the period January–April 2022, marking an increase of 32%. Total exports of goods for the period January–April 2023 were €1,251m compared to €1,126.7m for the period January–April 2022, an increase of 11%.

According to preliminary data, in April, total goods imports were €872.1 million compared to €838.6 million in April 2022, registering an increase of 4%. Imports from other EU Member States were €538.1m and from third countries €334m compared to €538m and €300.6m respectively in April 2022. It is noted that imports in April 2023 include the transfer of financial ownership of mobile transport equipment (ships), with a total value of €78.5 million compared to €36.4 million in April 2022.

On the other hand, total exports of goods in April 2023 were €302.1 million compared to €279 million in April 2022, marking an increase of 8.3%. Exports to other EU Member States were €77.5m and to third countries €224.6m, compared to €85.3m and €193.7m respectively in April 2022. Exports in April 2023 include the transfer of economic property of mobile transport equipment (ships), total value €102.7 million compared to €35.5 million in April 2022.

Besides, the Statistical Service announced the final foreign trade data for March. Total imports of goods were €1,001.1m in March 2023 compared to €979m in March 2022, an increase of 2.3%.

Exports of domestically produced goods, including ship supplies and of planes, for March 2023 was €163.4m compared to €157m in March 2022, recording an increase of 4.1%. The value of exports of industrial products for March 2023 amounted to €152.3 million compared to €146.4 million in March 2022, while the value of exports of agricultural products for March 2023 amounted to €10.1 million. compared to €9.9m in March 2022.

Exports of foreign products, including ship and aircraft supplies, for March 2023 were €210.1m compared to €167.4m. in March 2022, increasing by 25.5%.
