The measures taken by the Ministry of Education, regarding the treatment and prevention of violence and delinquency in schools, was announced by the political head, Athena Michailidou, who referred to the pilot program that has been prepared for students who exhibit extreme delinquent behavior.
As the Minister of Education stated in front of the Parliament, in the previous weeks, all the officials of the Ministry had worked feverishly, in order to take the measures that will bring about changes in the major issue of violence and delinquency within the schools. Specifically, as he mentioned, measures were taken, which are of a pedagogical nature, but also measures of another nature that will help to change the situation.

One of the measures announced by Ms. Michailidou is the increase in guards and the implementation of the pilot measure of cameras, in schools that have been characterized as high risk. It is noted that the Ministry of Education had registered the dangerous schools, which exceed 100, and it has been decided to implement the measure of placing the cameras in a small number, given that this is a pilot application of the measure. The aim is to record the data and assess the situation, so that decisions can be made to extend or not the measure.
In addition to this, the Ministry of Education, as Athena Michailidou reported before the Parliament, has also prepared a plan for a pilot program to be implemented in October, which will concern the monitoring of students with extreme delinquent behavior. In particular, as the Minister of Education explained, the students will be in a separate structure, outside of his school, for four months and not three months as was originally decided and there he will attend a special program, which is a combination of school courses and a specific program by the experts.

It is noted that in this specific program, the students will be monitored by specialist child psychologists, given that the program will be implemented by the School Psychologists Service and once the four-month schedule has passed, the students will return to their schools and there will be monitoring and evaluation of the results. What is underlined is that the program will be individual for each student.
However, the Ministry of Education will set some basic criteria, which it will send to the school principals, in order to indicate students who should join the program, while there should also be parental consent for the student's choice.
Within the next few weeks, the Ministry of Education is expected to come back before the Parliament, to bring regulations, so that there is a legislative regulation for the specific program.
