The trade deficit increased by € 715.1 million in the period January-September compared to the same period last year.
According to the Statistical Service, the trade deficit was € 3,987.6 million for the period January – September 2021 compared to € 3,272.5 million in the corresponding period of 2020.
More specifically, total imports of goods from EU Member States and third countries for the period January – September 2021 were € 6,119.8 million compared to € 5,408.3 million for the period January – September 2020, an increase of 13, 2%. Total exports of goods (to EU Member States and third countries) for the period January – September 2021 were € 2,132.3 million compared to € 2,135.7 million for the period January – September 2020, a decrease of 0, 2%.
In terms of August, total imports of goods from EU Member States and third countries were € 688.3 million in August 2021 compared to € 496.9 million in August 2020, an increase of 38.5% .
Exports of domestically produced products, including ship and aircraft supplies, for August 2021 were € 107.5 million compared to € 102.5 million in August 2020, recording an increase of 4.9%. The value of exports of industrial products for August 2021 amounted to € 102.1 million compared to € 96.3 million in August 2020, while the value of exports of agricultural products for August 2021 amounted to € 4.1 million. against € 4.0 million in August 2020.
Exports of foreign products, including ship and aircraft supplies, for August 2021 were € 175.6 million compared to € 97.4 million in August 2020, an increase of 80.3%.
Based on preliminary data, in September the total imports of goods were € 617.6 million compared to € 584.2 million in September 2020, recording an increase of 5.7%. Imports from other EU Member States in September 2021 were € 418.1 million and from third countries € 199.6 million compared to € 385.8 million and € 198.4 million respectively in September 2020. Imports in September 2021 include the transfer of financial ownership of mobile transport equipment (ships), with a total value of € 17.8 million compared to € 52.6 million in September 2020.
Total exports of goods in September 2021 were € 179.3 million compared to € 176.5 million in September 2020, recording an increase of 1.6%. Exports to other EU Member States in September 2021 were € 63.4 million and to third countries € 115.8 million, compared to € 58.8 million and € 117.7 million respectively in September 2020. Exports in September 2021 include the transfer of financial ownership of mobile transport equipment (ships), with a total value of € 8.3 million compared to € 17.4 million in September 2020.
