Total motor vehicle registrations rose 27.9% in the January-July 2023 period to 26,462, compared to 20,685 in the same period in 2022, according to figures released by the Statistics Office on Tuesday.

Salon passenger car registrations increased by 28.9% to 21,178, compared to 16,427 in the corresponding period in 2022. Of the total passenger saloon cars, 9,231 or 43.6% were new and 11,947 or 56.4% they were used cars. Rental cars in particular saw a 37.7% increase to 3,962.

In addition, bus registrations increased to 211 in the January-July 2023 period, up from 47 in the same period in 2022, while freight vehicle registrations increased to 2,512, compared to 2,252 in the corresponding period in 2022, an increase of 11.5%. . Specifically, light trucks increased by 7.9% to 1,955, heavy trucks by 33.5% to 307, road tractors (trailers) by 51% to 74 and rental vehicles by 9.3% to 176.

Moped registrations < 50cc fell to 162 in the January-July 2023 period, compared to 179 in the same period in 2022, while in contrast, motorcycle registrations > 50km increased by 33.8% to 2,090, compared to 1,562 in the same period in 2022.

During July 2023, total motor vehicle registrations reached 4,441, an increase of 48.6% over 2,988 in July 2022. Saloon passenger car registrations up 53.8% to 3,578 from 2,326 in July 2022.
