A 33,910-ton cargo ship carrying 21 crew members ran aground and then broke into two pieces off the coast of Japan.
The Crimson Polaris, a cargo ship from Panama, capsized on August 11, about 2.4 miles from the port of Hatsinohe in northern Japan, according to CNN.
CNN reported that the ship was carrying pieces of wood from Thailand and was nearing the end of its voyage when it got stuck in the shallows. After disintegrating, he left a three-mile oil slick behind him.

The pilot of the boat Nippon Wusen told the Japanese newspaper Kyodo News that the ship, which was built in 2008, was swept away by strong winds in shallow water.

All 21 crew members, including eight Chinese and 13 Filipinos, were taken ashore in a rescue operation that lasted about five hours, according to the maritime news agency The Maritime Executive.
A spokesman for the Japanese Coast Guard told Reuters that the two parts of the boat had not yet been moved. Boats of the Japanese authorities are monitoring the situation.
