Industrial production increased by 1.4% in 2022

Industrial Production Index recorded an increase of 1.4% in 2022 compared to 2021, according to data released on Friday by the Cyprus Statistical Service.

For the month of December 2022 reached 132.3 points (base 2015=100), marking a decrease of 1.7% compared to December 2021.

In the manufacturing sector, an increase of 2.5% was observed in December 2022 compared to December 2021. An increase was also recorded in the mining and quarrying sector (9.6%). A negative change was observed in the electricity supply (-16.2%) and water supply and materials recovery (-14.8%) sectors.

In the manufacturing sector, the most significant positive changes compared to December 2021 were presented in the following economic activities: Production of refined petroleum products, chemicals and products and pharmaceutical products and preparations (+25.3%), manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products ( +22.6%), production of textiles, clothing and leather goods (+8.3%) and manufacture of machinery and equipment, motor vehicles and other transport equipment (+7.7%). The most significant negative changes were observed in the activities of manufacture of electronic and optical products and electrical equipment (-55.3%) and production of base metals and manufacture of metal products (-5.2%).

Comparing the rates of change for in the period January – December 2022 with the corresponding period of the previous year, the most significant increases are observed in the economic activities of production of textiles, clothing and leather goods (+21.5%), furniture manufacturing and repair/installation of machinery and equipment (+16 .0%), production of oil refining products, chemicals and products and pharmaceutical products and preparations (+8.9%) and water collection, treatment and supply (+6.4%). The activities in which the most important reductions in production compared to the period January – December 2021 were observed were those of the manufacture of electronic and optical products and electrical equipment (-44.5%), the production of basic metals and the manufacture of metal products (-6.0% ) and wood industry and manufacture of wood and cork products, except furniture (-4.4%).
