Infection rate very high in the community-New National Report

The national report with the epidemiological data for the course of the pandemic until July 26, 2021 was published, as well as the analysis of deaths until July 28, 2021.

In general, the drop in the mobile average of diagnoses seems to be noticeable, the cumulative effect of 14 days shows signs of stabilization in all Provinces and the number of reproduction has dropped below 1.

However, the infection load in the community remains very high with the cumulative impact of 14 days approaching 1500 / 100,000 population (1403.5 / 100,000) and the data we have from the sewage in Limassol and Larnaca show high concentrations of virus gene fragments.

  • As of July 26, 2021, 98,144 cases of COVID-19 have been diagnosed in the Republic of Cyprus, with 415 deaths due to COVID-19 (COVID-19 mortality: 0.4%).
  • The cumulative incidence of 14 days of COVID-19 (diagnosed cases of 14 days per 100,000 inhabitants) is 1,403.5.
  • In the last 14 days (13 – 16 July 2021) 12,463 confirmed cases of COVID-19 were recorded:

– The median age of COVID-19 cases was 28 years (Intra-quartile range: 19-41 years), 52.2% for men (n = 4,404) and 47.8% for women (n = 4,024) – of the 8,428 cases (67.5%) with the relevant information available.

– Based on the epidemiological history, 6.7% (n = 42) were cases with a recent travel history, while 93.3% (n = 582) were cases of domestic transmission – out of 625 cases (5%) with relevant information available.

  • On July 28, 2021, 255 people with COVID-19 (diagnosed by July 26) were hospitalized (based on recorded data, including those who were discharged, transferred, or died that day). Their mean age was 57 years (Intra-Quarter range: 45-69 years), with 53.2% (n = 126) concerning men (out of 237 individuals with relevant information available) and 31.9% ( ν = 51) people from the province of Limassol (from 160 people with the relevant information available). In total, 19 (25.3%) people with COVID-19 who were treated reported underlying diseases (out of 75 people with the relevant information available). According to the records, 35 people (diagnosed until July 26) were in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) – and all 35 were intubated. The median age of COVID-19 patients in ICU was 61 years (Intra-quartile range: 52-70 years), while 20 cases (57.1%) were in men.
  • In the last 14 days, 131,243 molecular tests (PCR) (14,779.6 per 100,000 population) and 883,986 antigen rapid tests (79,548 per 100,000 population) have been performed

Deaths

According to the registered data, among the people diagnosed with COVID-19 until July 26, 415 deaths were recorded (until July 28, 2021), with underlying cause COVID-19 disease (mortality COVID-19: 0.4% ). The COVID-19 mortality per 100,000 population is 46.7.

There were 271 deaths (65.3%) in men and 144 (34.7%) in women.

The median age of people with COVID-19 who lost their lives due to this disease was 79 years (Intra-quadrant range: 70-86 years). In the province of Limassol 153 (36.9%) deaths were reported, 142 (34.2%) in the province of Nicosia, 71 (17.1%) in the province of Larnaca, 27 (6.5%) in the province of Paphos, 17 (4, 1%) in the province of free Famagusta and 4 deaths (0.2%) concern British bases or residence abroad or no information was available for them.

The median time from the date of sampling to the date of death from COVID-19 was 13 days (Intra-quartile range: 7-22 days). The graph shows the number of deaths per day with underlying cause of COVID-19 disease.

Mortality (deaths from any cause in people with COVID-19 per 100,000 population) is 55.5. There were 326 deaths in men (66.1%) and 167 (33.9%) in women.

The median age of people with COVID-19 who lost their lives was 79 years (Intra-quadrant range: 70-86 years).

186 (37.7%) deaths were reported in the province of Limassol, 164 (33.3%) in the province of Nicosia, 84 (17%) in the province of Larnaca, 34 (6.9%) in the province of Paphos, 20 (4.1%) ) in the province of free Famagusta and 4 deaths (0.8%) concern British bases or residence abroad or no information was available.

The median time from the date of sampling to the date of death from each cause in individuals with COVID-19 was 13 days (Intra-quadratic range: 7-22 days).

Recovery

By July 26, 2021, 88.2% (n = 86,065) of COVID-19 cases have been released / recovered.
