There are dozens of positive coronavirus cases found in nursing homes in the last month, with the competent bodies reminding at every opportunity to follow the protocols, but in particular the need for people belonging to vulnerable groups to receive a booster dose of vaccine, at a time when the health system is suffering because of the outbreak of infections.

With the end of the pandemic, it may have become clear that in several cases the protocols were not followed by nursing homes, but it seems that this picture has changed. The experience and knowledge gained does not leave the management of nursing homes room for error, but on the contrary, it is demonstrated that the measures have now taken root in their daily lives. the families of the elderly, so that they also observe the strict protocols when they visit them, either in nursing homes or in their homes. As he said speaking to REPORTERthe consulting psychologist and operator of the Observatory, Kyriaki Sarri, “it is not possible for the child of the family to have a virus and the parents take it from the grandparents. This puts the elderly person's life at great risk. We should by all means, as long as we can, observe the measures and protocols at home as well. Each of us should take the measures concerning these people seriously”.

At the same time, Mrs. Sarri emphasized the need to observe the protocols and self-protection measures, so that the Observatory does not become the recipient of complaints, as during the critical period of the pandemic, since in the last months we are facing a difficult epidemiological period and we have to protect vulnerable groups. “In the past and during the corona virus period, we had some complaints about some nursing homes that did not follow hygiene measures. Lately we believe that due to the awareness shown by the people and the information that is made in the mass media about these issues, we do not have as many complaints as we had in the past. From our experience and from what we hear, we understand that there is an outbreak and we should be careful”

The official of the Observatory noted that what the nursing homes must do is to reverently observe the protocols in order to protect the people who belong to the vulnerable groups. “We are dealing with vulnerable people and there is a great risk. We see that during the winter and as we move into the winter months, the flare-up becomes even more intense. This shows that we should all be very careful, not only in nursing homes in hospitals, in structures in general that deal with vulnerable people but also at home”.

At the same time, Ms. Sarri, “it is very important to observe what is in force. We should not play with the health of these people”.

It is recalled that during the last update from the Ministry of Health, a total of fifty new positive cases were recorded in nursing homes with the positivity rate being just before 1 %, while even the new deaths that were registered concerned people aged 85 to 93.

The image that had been given from the previous period is that these people are in a  difficult position and for this reason it had the competent services of the Ministry of Health promote his vaccination with a booster dose.
