Το Τμήμα The Labor Inspectorate (TEE) announced that in July and August it will conduct an inspection campaign at construction sites and facilities of various economic activities, where outdoor work is carried out and during the summer months the thermal stress of employees may be particularly high.

According to the GTP, the inspections will focus, mainly, on the control of compliance with the basic provisions of the Legislation for Safety and Health at Work, in relation to the implementation of preventive and protective measures to address the risks related to the thermal stress of employees. It is understood that compliance with the provisions of this Legislation will be monitored to address other risks.

In this regard, it is reminded that in order to deal with the thermal stress of employees indoors or outdoors, employers and the self-employed must apply the provisions of Occupational Safety and Health (Code of Practice for Thermal Stress 2014 of Employees 2014) (KDP 291/2014 and KDP 206/2020), which are available, along with relevant information, on the website of TEE, http://www.mlsi.gov.cy/dli .

According to the Code and especially with regard to outdoor work, both employers and the self-employed should measure the parameters that contribute to the thermal stress, such as air temperature and relative humidity and/or monitor weather reports and forecasts of the Meteorological Service and to regulate their work accordingly. It is noted that, special instruments are available in the market for simultaneous measurement of dry thermometer temperature and humidity.

To document the monitoring of temperature and humidity conditions, as well as the required change of work/rest and other measures, employers and self-employed persons must record the above measurements and measures in Table 14 of the Code entitled “Recording temperature and humidity conditions”. humidity, change of work/rest per hour and meters “when high temperature conditions prevail in combination with the relative humidity and to act in accordance with Table 12 of the Code entitled” Required work-change/work/rest ratio “, ie to reduce or to interrupt the work they carry out.
