The president seems to want Christakis Patsalidis, the DIKO and the former PtD want Konstantinos Herodotou
An intense backstage is underway on the issue of the position of the central banker of Cyprus, as the term of office of the current governor, Mr. Constantinos Herodotus, ends in less than 20 days. The president has not yet made his decisions and it seems that all possibilities are open, either for the renewal of Mr. Herodotos' term, or for his replacement. The information that one of the parties supporting the government favors the stay of Mr. Herodotos is intensifying. Specifically, the Democratic Party (DIKO) is in favor of this position. Apart from the leadership of DIKO, however, according to the same information, the forces of the former president of the Republic, Mr. Nikos Anastasiadis, are also in favor of Herodotos staying in Central. Rumors about staying or replacing Mr. Herodotos “give and take” in economic and political circles. On the one hand, it is heard that Mr. Herodotou has already received the message through a “third party” from President Christodoulidis that his term will not be renewed for another five years, and on the other hand, it is heard that the President has told the former deputy CEO of the Bank of Cyprus , Mr. Christodoulos (Christakis) Patsalidis two months ago that he will take the position of governor of the Central Bank. However, since then – as heard in the same rumor floating around – no report has been continued regarding the position.
