Apollon's second victory in an equal number of championship games and especially with the way it came, seems to eliminate for good the bad climate that prevailed after the early European exclusion and… makes the blue and whites.
Alexander Tsorniger's team got a three-pointer against Aris, which stimulates the psychology in its ranks to the highest degree. It is not a small thing to get the maximum from a game in which he played from 29 ′ with one player less. The (correct) dismissal of Hambos did not cost, since ten minutes later came the goal of Yanga, who opened the score, while Apollon withstood the (not so intense) pressure exerted by Aris in the second half.
Particularly important is the fact that the blue and whites of Limassol kept their home inviolable for the first time, especially if we consider that they had conceded goals not only in each of the three games they had played (two with Zilina, one with Ethnikos) but also in six halves.
In fact, although in the second half Apollon gave space to Aris, who tried to push by playing with a player more, any opportunities of the “light brigade” (including the two beams) were almost all with out-of-range shots, with the exception of the head of Sildenfeld at 79 ′ and the phase at 93., resulting from static phases.
Alexander Tsorniger stressed in his statements after the match that he is constantly improving and that is a fact. Given that his team consists of many new people and it is logical that it needs its time, while there are players who have not yet joined the team, some of whom are key, it is understood that there is much room for improvement.
With this in mind, the fact that Apollo has taken all six available points and is saving time without “paying” this period of “adjustment”, is absolutely important and allows the blue and whites to be optimistic in view of the continuation.
Next Sunday (19/9) follows the home derby with APOEL of his former coach, Sofroni Augustis, where Apollon will try in the first big match of the year to get another three points, to make 3/3 and to refute those who possibly managed to τον write him off from the title fight.
