On March 7-9, the UN Secretary General's special envoy for the Cyprus issue, Jane Hall Luth, will visit Cyprus.
Ms. Lut's visit is part of the preparations for the informal 5 + 1 press conference on the Cyprus issue, in Geneva, on April 27-29.
During her visit, Ms. Lut will have meetings with the President of the Republic, Nikos Anastasiadis and the Turkish Cypriot leader, Ersin Tatar. He is also expected to meet with negotiators on both sides. Prior to her contacts with the two sides, Ms. Lut will also have a meeting with the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Cyprus, Elizabeth Spehar, and members of the team on the Cyprus issue in the UN Secretary-General's Good Services Mission. , to be informed in relation to any developments and contacts taking place on the ground.
It is recalled that the representative of the UN Secretary General, Stefan Duzarik, announced in a written statement last Wednesday, that “after the consultations conducted by the UN Secretary General, Jane Hall Luth, in the past months, intends to convene an informal 5 + 1 meeting on the Cyprus issue in Geneva, Switzerland, from 27 to 29 April. “
He added that “the purpose of the meeting will be to determine whether there is common ground for the parties to negotiate a lasting solution to the Cyprus problem, within a foreseeable horizon.”
