The group is blamed for an endless series of massacres of civilians in the DR Congo, as well as attacks in neighboring Uganda.
The account of the victims of two attacks attributed to ADF rebels – has pledged allegiance in the Islamic State (IS) – in the eastern part of DR Congo increased to 18 dead and 14 missing, local sources informed yesterday Sunday.
The attacks took place the day before Saturday in the Beni region, in North Kivu province, which has been destabilized for years. Kinos Katuo, head of civil society in Mamové, told AFP.
He added that 14 people are missing, while four houses and two motorcycles were set on fire.
A local public official, Charles Educado, estimated that “we are more than 18 dead”, but “no one can go (…) to retrieve bodies that are still lying on the ground, it is complicated”.
The The Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) – formed by Muslim rebels from Uganda – have ravaged eastern DR Congo for three decades and are blamed for thousands of civilian deaths.
ADF pledged allegiance to Islamic State in 2019; IS says the group as its arm in central Africa.
The same group was also blamed for an attack in late July that killed at least 20 people.
As of late 2021 , the armed forces of DR Congo and Uganda are conducting joint operations against the ADF in North Kivu and neighboring Ituri Province. But the operation did not lead to an end to the murderous attacks against civilians.
The organization is accused of an endless series of massacres of civilians in DR Congo, as well as attacks in neighboring Uganda.
