Lionel Messi's father has revealed that he would like his son to return to Barcelona sometime.
The Argentine star who shocked me transferred to Paris Saint-Germain last August, it took him a long time to develop his skills at his new club.
Messi did not have such problems adapting to Barcelona's style of play, scoring 672 goals in 777 appearances for the Catalan “giants” and his father, Jorge, remains optimistic that the 34-year-old will play again at the Nou Camp in the future.
“I hope it [happens] one day,” he told Twitch Jijantes FC after being asked about his son's prospect of playing for Barcelona before the end of his career.
Jorge is not the first person to speak out about his desire to see Messi return to the club he went to as a teenager.
Messi's former teammate Danny Alves called on the playmaker to “return home” to Barcelona last month.
However, it has been reported that Paris Saint-Germain plan to keep the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner to the club for another year and build the team around him.
Messi has scored just six goals in Ligue 1 this season, he was slow to form as he scored a goal against Montpellier on Saturday. p>
He has also recorded 13 assists in the first division of France throughout the season.
Nevertheless, he has consistently outperformed Kylian Mbappe over the last nine months, with the Frenchman receiving his Ligue 1 player of the season award on Sunday. Messi was not even pre-selected for the award.
Mbappe could move to Real Madrid when his contract expires this summer, however, something that could lead Messi to become PSG's key man in 2022-23, if he chooses to stay at the club.
