A meeting in the presence of the Deputy Minister of Research and Innovation Kyriakos Kokkinos was held at the Paphos EBE Offices at noon on Holy Thursday, during which research, innovation and how the digital transformation is used by businesses and the business ecosystem of Paphos to turn research and innovation into competitiveness & nbsp; economy and entrepreneurship, according to & nbsp; Red.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Kokkinos said that “we have dealt with an expanded subject on issues concerning Paphos in particular & nbsp; and we have agreed on specific cooperation actions where the business community will be merged with the research academic community, as well as the digital transformation to be accelerated for the business community of Paphos “.
Asked to comment on Paphos's effort to develop into a smart city & nbsp; The Deputy Minister of Innovation replied that Paphos is a smart city, noting that a lot has already been done.
He added that Paphos has a balanced development with an emphasis not only on tourism and land development, but also on higher education with the launch in 2023 of the American University of Beirut and other private & nbsp; institutions. There is, he continued, a system of innovation and start ups, which is growing in Paphos and this, as he said, is the real responsibility of the State and the Municipality of Paphos to encourage and support their forces because & nbsp; this is what secures , he assessed the long-term viability of the city and of Cyprus by extension.
He also pointed out that Cyprus in general is the technological capital of the Mediterranean. He also described Paphos as a pilot, stating that there is a large community of digital units and scientists working in Paphos to provide services outside Cyprus. This thing, he stressed, “started, is happening and will grow even more.
For his part, the president of EBE Paphos George May said that Mr. Kokkinos is doing a huge job which, perhaps due to communication policy not many people know it. & nbsp; He also said that the announcement of some programs related to subsidies for upgrading technologies is imminent, stating that this is very essential and beneficial for businesses but also for society in general.
